The 2012 La Pointe has fresh, wild berry, cranberry, incense and wild heather aromas that unfurl in the glass, a touch of black truffle emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is still some new oak to be absorbed, but it is well balanced with good acidity, notwithstanding what you might describe as a solid structure towards the finish. It is a very fine Pomerol, though my advice is to wait 4-5 years to get the most from Eric Monnoret's fast-improving Pomerol. - Rober Parker Jr

Bordeaux is a region in southwestern France that is known for producing some of the world's finest wines. The region is located along the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, and its climate and soil are ideal for growing grapes. Bordeaux wines are typically made from a blend of different grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec.
One of the most famous Bordeaux wines is Château Margaux, which is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. This wine is known for its rich, complex flavors and aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, and tobacco. Another well-known Bordeaux wine is Château Lafite Rothschild, which is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes. This wine is known for its elegant, refined style and flavors of blackcurrant, graphite, and cedar.
Bordeaux wines are classified into several different categories, based on their quality and style. The most prestigious classification is the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, which was created for the Exposition Universelle de Paris. This classification ranks the top Bordeaux wines into five categories, or "growths," based on their reputation and price. The first growths are Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Haut-Brion, and Château Mouton Rothschild.
Other famous Bordeaux wines include Château Cheval Blanc, which is made from Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes and is known for its rich, velvety texture and flavors of black cherry and spice. Château Pétrus is another famous Bordeaux wine, made from Merlot grapes and known for its intense, concentrated flavors of black fruit and earthy notes.
Bordeaux wines are also known for their aging potential. Many Bordeaux wines can be aged for decades, and some can even improve with age. This is due to the high tannin content in the wines, which helps to preserve them over time. Some of the best vintages for Bordeaux wines include 1982, 1990, 2000, and 2005.
In addition to red wines, Bordeaux also produces white wines, which are made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle grapes. The most famous white Bordeaux wine is Château d'Yquem, which is made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes and is known for its sweet, honeyed flavors and aromas of apricot and peach.
