Strong Lager is a German-inspired beer style that has become a global sensation since its inception in the mid-nineteenth century. A Euro Lager is, in general, a more premium variant of an American Lager. Euro Pale Lager, Euro Dark Lager, and Euro Strong Lager are the three types of Euro Lager beer.

Although few variants are accessible in the United States, the Euro Strong Lager is a rare variety. The alcohol content of this Euro Lager is often higher than that of a brewery’s normal Lager. The brew has a higher malt content for fermentation, but low hop content. Euro Strong Lagers feature a sweet grain and alcohol scent and flavor, yet they’re not too heavy to drink. The Euro Strong Lager is usually straw yellow to light copper in color and has a 7-10 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). Shellfish, BBQ, spicy food, and curried foods are common meal partners with Euro Strong Lager.

These Euro Strong Lager varieties have had a significant impact on the craft beer sector in both Europe and the United States.
