Château Pavie Saint-Émilion 2009

Discover this Saint-Émilion 2009

This chateau has undergone dramatic change since 1998 when Gerard Perse purchased the house and has transformed the wine into one loved and lauded by influential critic, Robert Parker. Remaining today as a very contreversial wine in the Bordeaux context  with the larger than life style with more than ample tannin and oak weight. The wonderful thing about vintages like 2009 is that the fruit supports this every expansive wine beautifully. An unfathomable concentration of overflowing blackberries, charred meat, cedar, cigar box, pencil shavings and smooth, rich vanilla pod. The Prese regime seem to come close to perfection on many occasions and they may have just achieved it here.

Saint-Émilion 2009 is by Château Pavie. It has a critic score of 92 out of 100 based on an aggregation of ratings from our partner sites. This 2009 vintage is available in 750ml volume.

Blended Red Wines

Blended Red refers to red wines made from a combination of different grape varieties. These blends can vary widely in style and flavor profile, depending on the grapes used and the winemaking techniques employed. The ABV for blended red wines typically ranges from 12-15%. They are popular for their complexity and the winemaker's ability to create a balanced and harmonious wine.

Blended red wines are common in many wine regions, with notable examples including Bordeaux blends, Rhone blends, and New World blends from regions like California and Australia. The art of blending allows winemakers to enhance the strengths of each grape variety, creating wines with greater depth and character. The flexibility and creativity involved in producing blended red wines make them a favorite among both winemakers and consumers, offering a wide range of styles to suit different tastes.

Critical Acclaim

The first thing you notice is the colossal, dense colour. This is a massive wine: very, very oaky and very, very big. Also unbelievably tannic. Powerful roasted nut and plummy merlot aromas, layered with oak. Phenomenal density and extract, grip and length. A colossal wine, but could I ever drink and enjoy it? I am doubtful. Don't think of opening it for a decade or more.
