    Shiraz Wines

Shiraz is a red wine grape variety that is grown in many regions around the world. It is also known as Syrah in some countries, but the two names refer to the same grape. Shiraz is a popular grape variety because it produces full-bodied, rich, and complex wines that are perfect for pairing with a variety of foods.

Shiraz is believed to have originated in the Rhône Valley in France, but it is now grown in many other regions around the world. Some of the most famous Shiraz-producing regions include Australia, South Africa, and California. In Australia, Shiraz is the most widely planted grape variety, and it is known for producing bold, fruit-forward wines that are perfect for drinking on their own or with hearty meals.

There are many different styles of Shiraz, depending on where it is grown and how it is made. Some Shiraz wines are aged in oak barrels, which gives them a smoky, spicy flavor. Others are made with a blend of different grape varieties, which can add complexity and depth to the wine.

One of the most famous Shiraz brands is Penfolds, which is based in Australia. Penfolds produces a range of Shiraz wines, including the iconic Penfolds Grange, which is considered one of the best wines in the world. The Penfolds Grange is a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and it is aged in new American oak barrels for up to 20 months.

Another famous Shiraz brand is Jacob's Creek, which is also based in Australia. Jacob's Creek produces a range of Shiraz wines, including the Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz, which is aged in French and American oak barrels for up to 12 months. The Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz is known for its rich, full-bodied flavor and its notes of blackberry, plum, and spice.

In South Africa, one of the most famous Shiraz brands is Boekenhoutskloof, which produces a range of high-quality Shiraz wines. The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is aged in French oak barrels for up to 18 months, and it is known for its complex flavor profile and its notes of black fruit, spice, and tobacco.

In California, one of the most famous Shiraz brands is Ridge Vineyards, which produces a range of high-quality wines, including the Ridge Lytton Springs Shiraz. The Ridge Lytton Springs Shiraz is a blend of Shiraz, Petite Sirah, and Carignane grapes, and it is aged in American oak barrels for up to 14 months. The Ridge Lytton Springs Shiraz is known for its rich, full-bodied flavor and its notes of blackberry, cherry, and spice.

  • Critical Acclaim

Deep colour. Intense paneforte, dark chocolate, dark blackberry aromas with lifted roasted chestnut, mocha, English-toffee aromas and notes of sweet tobacco, dried roses, shellac and frankincense. Superbly concentrated wine with wonderful presence, structure and density. Plush in scale yet possessing lovely energy and structure...Dense, expansive, rich and voluminous. All in perfect symmetry. A transcendent and powerfully expressive Grange harking back to Max Schubert’s original blueprint. Its aromatic complexity, generosity and suppleness is reminiscent of the early 1960s. This has to be in the pantheon of all-time great vintages. Unbelievably good to drink now; a great indication of its lasting quality (but suggest you don’t!). Leave it for a minimum of ten years, if you can. 2026-2080.
