Penfolds Great Grandfather Rare Tawny

Medium pale tawny colour with a greenish yellow rim. A superlative complexity of old leather and smoky, raisiny notes with a twinge of volatile acidity helping lift it all and carry it. More rancio, more density and concentration, great power and fathomless complexity. Rich and yet not particularly sweet. Astonishing flavour and profoundity. A very great wine. Concentration and lusciousness is superior to the Grandfather, and it's all kept alive by the acidity, part of which is volatile, in the positive sense of the word.
