Carmenere is a red grape variety originally from Bordeaux but now primarily grown in Chile. It produces full-bodied wines with soft tannins and flavors of red fruit, bell pepper, and spice. The ABV for Carmenere wines typically ranges from 13-14.5%. Its popularity is due to its ability to produce smooth, flavorful wines with a distinctive profile, making it a standout in Chilean viticulture.
The warm, sunny climate and diverse soils of Chile, particularly in regions like the Central Valley, provide ideal conditions for Carmenere. The grape's ability to produce wines with both ripe fruit flavors and herbaceous notes makes it unique and versatile. Carmenere's history as a "lost grape" rediscovered in Chile adds to its intrigue and appeal. Its approachable, food-friendly nature further enhances its popularity among wine enthusiasts worldwide.
