Vernaccia is a white grape variety primarily grown in the Tuscany region of Italy, particularly in the town of San Gimignano. It produces medium-bodied wines with high acidity and flavors of green apple, citrus, and almond, often with a touch of minerality. The ABV for Vernaccia wines typically ranges from 12.5-13.5%. Its popularity is due to its ability to produce fresh, vibrant wines that reflect the unique terroir of Tuscany.
The varied soils and climates of San Gimignano provide ideal conditions for Vernaccia, allowing the grape to retain its natural acidity and develop its characteristic flavors. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is celebrated for its bright, refreshing profile and its potential for producing high-quality, age-worthy wines. The grape's ability to produce expressive, terroir-driven wines with a distinctive character ensures its continued significance and popularity among wine enthusiasts.
