Viognier Wines

Viognier is a white wine grape variety that is known for its aromatic and full-bodied characteristics. It is believed to have originated in the Rhône Valley of France, where it is still widely grown today. Viognier is also grown in other parts of the world, including the United States, Australia, and South Africa.

Viognier is a challenging grape to grow, as it is prone to disease and requires a warm climate to ripen properly. However, when grown successfully, it produces wines that are highly prized for their complex aromas and flavors. Viognier wines are typically dry, with flavors of apricot, peach, and honey, and a floral aroma that is often compared to that of jasmine or honeysuckle.

There are several different varieties of Viognier, each with its own unique characteristics. Some of the most popular varieties include:

  • American Viognier: Viognier is also grown in the United States, particularly in California. American Viognier wines are known for their full-bodied texture and flavors of peach, apricot, and honey.

  • Critical Acclaim

Medium yellow colour. Cashew nutty aroma, clean and fairly plain, but attractive. Same in mouth, where it has a trace of sweetness and plenty of richness. Full-bodied, smooth and fleshy, with lovely texture and roundness, fresh and tidy on a finish that lingers long. Good, and will keep a few years. Later: a bit disjointed and has a stuck-ferment / aldehyde character on the nose.
