Plantagenet Shiraz 2010

Discover this Shiraz 2010

Plantagenet hails from the Western Australian region of Great Southern that is a relative new comer to the wine world but already has staked a claim for excellent quality Shiraz. This particular Shiraz is dense in the glass and displays blackberry aromas with underlying spicy, peppery and tobacco notes on the nose. The palate shows velvety, dense, dark fruit with complexity, smoky oak and a touch of white pepper which is typical of the region. The elegance reflects the cool climate in this region.  Great potential for a conditioned cellar.

Shiraz 2010 is by Plantagenet. It has a critic score of 88 out of 100 based on an aggregation of ratings from our partner sites. This 2010 vintage is available in 750ml volume.

Shiraz Wines

Shiraz, also known as Syrah, is a red grape variety widely grown around the world, particularly in the Rhône Valley of France and Australia. It produces full-bodied wines with high tannins and flavors of dark fruit, such as blackberry and plum, along with notes of black pepper, spice, and earth. The ABV for Shiraz wines typically ranges from 13-15%. Its popularity is due to its ability to produce rich, powerful wines that are both age-worthy and expressive of their terroir.

The varied soils and climates of regions like the Rhône Valley and Australia's Barossa Valley provide ideal conditions for Shiraz, allowing the grape to develop its characteristic intensity and complexity. Shiraz is often used to produce both varietal wines and blends, showcasing its versatility. The grape's potential for producing high-quality, distinctive wines that reflect the nuances of their growing region has ensured its continued prominence and popularity among winemakers and wine enthusiasts worldwide.

Critical Acclaim

Full red colour with slight brick-red rim. Very meaty, smoky, charcuterie and slightly animal aromas. Possibly char-oak. Some horsey notes. Soft, savoury palate with powdery tannins and a certain simplicity of character. A slight grip persists. A good middle of the road shiraz, but I'm not sure which way that sulfide is heading: will it get worse with age?
