In 1904 a co-operative winery called Ai Vino Delle Langhe was founded and a young man who worked there was Alfred Prunotto. Prunotto took over the estate in 1922, giving it his own name and today it is run under the umbrella of the famous Marchesi Antinori family. Located in Alba the estate tends around 50 hectares of vineyards throughout the Langhe and Monferrato. This Nebbiolo is a ruby red of good intensity tending towards garnet. Elegant in aroma with notes of raspberries, roses, and liquorice, full and balanced in flavour with a lengthy after taste. The Nebbiolo Occhetti, being such a round and elegant wine, is very versatile and a perfect match for hot antipasti, first courses and light meat dishes.
Occhetti Nebbiolo D'Alba 2017 is by Prunotto. It has a critic score of 87 out of 100 based on an aggregation of ratings from our partner sites. This 2017 vintage is available in 750ml volume.
Nebbiolo is a red grape variety that is primarily grown in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is known for producing some of the most complex and age-worthy wines in the world. The grape is named after the Italian word "nebbia," which means fog, as the grape clusters are often covered in a thick fog during the harvest season.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening grape that requires a long growing season and a cool climate to fully develop its flavors and aromas. The grape is high in tannins and acidity, which gives the wine its structure and longevity. The wines made from Nebbiolo are typically full-bodied, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, along with notes of leather, tobacco, and earth.
There are several different varieties of Nebbiolo, each with its own unique characteristics. The most famous of these is Barolo, which is made from Nebbiolo grown in the Barolo region of Piedmont.
